Where is the place that you find yourself currently? I'm going to make a drawing of "my place"
later today (when I've finished I'll add it to the chat thread that I'm going to send you an invitation to shortly!), but I'd love to hear about the place you are in, and where in the world you are at the moment 👣
My place where I am now was familiar to me somehow when I came here even tho I had never been here before in my current life. The pull felt magnetic. A deep resonance. Love. I left to live in the desert for 6 years and then felt this land called me back home. So for the second time in my life I have a piece of paper and a mortgage to “own” something that is a gift and can never really be owned. I feel ancestors of this land supporting me here. I am in the US state of Minnesota. The Lakota Sioux once called this area home. Now it is referred to as the Driftless region . Bluffs and coulees along the Mississippi River, underground caves, springs, trout streams, fossils from a long ago sea bed, all missed somehow by the last glaciers. Hence the name Driftless. The little farm where I live with my animals is on the ridge top overlooking the Mississippi River, the closest little town Is Brownsville, MN. I am very grateful to be on this interwoven journey with you all!
I can appreciate so much what you have described Sarah- I felt the same the minute that I arrived on the South Island. That I was home. And I've been thinking so much about the what it is for the land to belong to itself. It's a funny conversation isn't it, the conversation around owning land.
Your place sounds really amazing, I would love to visit that region sometime. And Driftless- what a name!
I so need to do this in the place I am in at the moment. I want to know it, to feel it, to connect with it, to recognise its power, it’s understand its complexity, its relationship to all its parts, human, non- human, mineral, vegetable. Because I feel the world rushing by, and I want it to stop so I can stand in peace and stillness with it, so I can get off the speed train that is life, and start to be, here, now, one insect at a time, one blade of grass at a time, and live in its deep beauty, which may be visible on the outside, because the countryside here is beautiful, but also to feel it on the inside. Interwoven, through me.
“Tomorrow has to start somewhere.” At the moment I’m in the Northern Sierra, in California where I live. I was pondering the fact that you are already in “tomorrow.” So the concept of Place became interwoven with the concept of time…. I’m off to explore…
Thank you for this wonderful excursion into your world Jane! I already have dandelions in bloom, a yellow carpet full of buzzing insects. A pair of magpies finished their nest in the lilac bush in front of our house yesterday.
There is nothing more beautiful than connecting with the surroundings and its inhabitants (whether animals, plants or humans).
Thank you for your call!
I gratefully accept it and look forward to your sharings...
Hello! Just now, a few minutes ago or maybe a bit longer, I joined Interwoven. My breath has been taken away. Every word you write, every sensory noticing, every. thing. is inside of me, clamoring for recognition and knowing. I cannot even begin to articulate this. To be invited to be a part of Interwoven and the connection to life you graciously, generously offer has a deep, deep meaning to me. Thank you. Thank you.
My own life has been tightly woven with horses, from my first appearance on this Land, continuing every moment, and now 50+ years on, still flows.
Almost ten years ago, I visited New Zealand. The experience was like my hand had sheathed itself into a perfectly fitted, familiar, well used glove. If I had visited her when I was young, I would have moved with no regrets. What a Land.
It is an understatement to say I am so looking forward to this journey.
Jane, your piece “barefoot” is one of the best things I’ve read recently. I love going barefoot, and I love the insights you offer about why I love it. Well done!
"...it’s a weird type of sickness to not allow yourself to be fully in the place that you stand. I feel I have spent several years, for one reason or another, doing simply that. And now, as I have said, I choose to do it for no longer."
It truly is weird how we self-sabotage and/or hold ourselves back from being and doing. I've had to do some deep reflecting and internal work to discover the "why" behind many of my unhealthy habits. As the you, the work remains even after those discoveries.

Oh thank you! You have made my day 👣 ❤️
Hey Jane!
I loved this:
