Incredible, profound…I was fascinated by the images while a little bit repulsed. The fascination took over and it felt right to gaze on these images because you speak of all women’s birthright or perhaps death right…rite? Thank you for writing.
I appreciate that Sarah- part of what took me so long to write it was wrestling with a similar experience. I was thinking about our creation myths and how the women always came from the body of a man (rib); was always denied the base experience of creation (in some creation myths, man is said to come from the soil, which is where that reference lies), and the apple I wanted to take back as a metaphor for the power that it is to be a woman comfortable in their own skin. A reclamation of sorts. Thank you for reading xx
Yes, definitely a reclamation! I loved the exploration of these age old metaphors and what they have meant to the many woman who ‘hold up half the sky’, as is described in Chinese mythology. Thank you for having the courage to explore these ideas and the creativity to express them. I’ve thought of this writing several times over the past 24 hours, as I have been doing other things.
Wow Jane, what a glorious trip you took me on. Who gave permission???? Who convinced us we needed permission... what a beautiful song this would make xx
Oh, this is so beautiful, Jane. The audio is a dream--it's very well-done, beautifully read. I love the incorporation of birdsong and water sounds. Incredibly impressive.
Thank you so much Melissa ❤️ and I agree. The survival (coupled with the trauma) conversation can be the leading one all too often, often at the expense of considering their opposites xx
